Strong Governance, Sensible Decisions

GroenLinks Delft believes that it is important for the city council and civil servants to listen to and cooperate with citizens and local organisations. Citizens that have questions, notifications or complaints are often shoved from pillar to post by the different authorities. In such cases the municipality must take its responsibility and create a single point of contact.

After several years of austerity GroenLinks wants to start investing in green spaces, bicycle paths, vulnerable neighbourhoods, debt counselling and increasing Delft’s attractiveness for companies and highly skilled workers. GroenLinks believes it is unnecessary to increase debt repayments as the municipality’s debt will decrease considerably over the course of the next few years. The property tax (OZB) shouldn’t be decreased: instead we prefer the (average of) 23 Euros per person per month be spent to provide excellent health care, amenities and a liveable city.

Citizens are invited to join the discussion about plans for our city. This improves citizen involvement and provides experiential knowledge and consensus. These will in turn help to implement policy and ensure things also work in practice. GroenLinks has always supported early stage consultation: involving citizens in new plans from the very beginning. A recent success is the introduction of the Right to Challenge. GroenLinks Delft is committed to do the same during the introduction of the ‘Environment and Planning Act.
